Besides theoretical considerations, some of the PhD candidates already started with their field research – such as Angelica Pinna, who, thanks to her new ICOM membership, officially joined the CIMCIM community and has now easier access to museums in Vienna that are part of her research.
PhD students of the sdp discuss their progress, ideas but also challenges that come up during research on the one hand within the sdp, for example in the context of colloquia, on the other hand, also outside the sdp, like Isabel Frey, who will participate in the "Max and Hilde Kochmann Summer School for PhD Students in European-Jewish History and Culture“ at the University of Sussex (https://juedischestudien.uni-graz.at/de/neuigkeiten/detail/article/max-and-hilde-kochmann-summer-school-for-phd-students-in-european-jewish-history-and-culture-2021/). Further she will be part of the Naomi Prawer Kadar International Yiddish Summer Program at Tel Aviv University in July, for which she got a full scholarship by the Rothschild Foundation Hanadiv Europe for graduate students in Jewish Studies in Europe.
Juan Escobar Campos will attend the Kismif Conference (Keep It Simple, Make It Fast), organized by the University of Porto, that will take place in Porto between the 7th and the 10th of July 2021 with the special attention to “Do it Yourself Cultures and Global Challenges”. He will contribute to the conference with a presentation on "Cultural Inequality and Precariousness among Musicians from Colombian Caribbean", which draws insights from his empirical research in Colombia and his theoretical explorations of the topic during the PhD research (https://www.kismifconference.com).
We would be pleased if we could spark your interest in one or the other of these events and we are looking forward to productive next months.
