Die mdw – Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien schreibt 2023 zum sechsten Mal eine interne Förderung für wissenschaftliche Publikationsprojekte aus.
Ziel der Ausschreibung ist die Unterstützung qualitativ hochwertiger wissenschaftlicher Publikationen als Teil der Karriereförderung für Early-stage Researcher, deren Dissertation nicht länger als 5 Jahre zurückliegt.

Gefördert werden Publikationsprojekte von Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen der mdw, die nicht aus Drittmitteln finanziert werden können. Diese Publikationsvorhaben können Buchprojekte (z. B. die Veröffentlichung von Dissertationen) ebenso umfassen wie Artikel in Fachzeitschriften, wobei die in der jeweiligen Fachdisziplin gängigen Verfahren der Qualitätssicherung zu berücksichtigen sind (z. B. Peer-Review). Nicht gefördert werden die Publikation oder Dokumentation von künstlerischen Projekten sowie Quellengenerierung ohne einen eigenständigen wissenschaftlich-interpretatorischen Anteil. Publikationen in Open Access sind ausdrücklich erwünscht.

Förderbar sind alle direkten Kosten (Lektorat, Druckkosten, Werkverträge, begründete andere Kosten wie Article/Book Processing Charges etc.) außer Übersetzungs-, Präsentations- und Reisekosten. Eine Kofinanzierung aus Eigen- bzw. Drittmitteln ist zulässig. Das Projekt soll innerhalb eines Jahres realisiert werden können.

Insgesamt stehen 12.000 Euro zur Verfügung. Aus den eingereichten Projektanträgen wählt eine interdisziplinäre, interne Jury bis zu 5 Publikationsvorhaben aus.

Antragsunterlagen:

• Antragsformular inkl. Kurzbeschreibung des Publikationsprojekts mit einem Zeitplan (max. 300 Wörter) und Kurzbiografie (max. 300 Wörter)
• Manuskript der Publikation (alternativ: Konzept des Publikationsprojekts)
• Publikationsliste
• im Fall von Dissertationen: Empfehlungsschreiben der Betreuer*innen bzw. ein externes Gutachten, Zustimmung zur Einsicht in das Ergebnis der Überprüfung auf Textidentitäten durch die Jury und die zuständigen Mitarbeiter*innen der Forschungsförderung
• im Fall von Zeitschriften- und Buchbeiträgen: Publikationszusage und Abstract
• im Fall von Buchprojekten: Zusage des Verlags mit Zeitplan und Kostenvoranschlag

Das Publikationsprojekt soll innerhalb eines Jahres abgeschlossen werden. Ein Endbericht (inkl. Kostenabrechnung in tabellarischer Form) und ggf. ein Belegexemplar der Publikation sind spätestens drei Monate nach dem Projektabschluss an die Forschungsförderung zu übermitteln. Bei elektronischen Veröffentlichungen speichern Fördernehmer*innen die geförderte Publikation einschließlich aller Anhänge in pub.mdw sowie ggf. zugrunde liegende Forschungsdaten im mdwRepository ab.

Auf die mdw-Finanzierung muss in passender Form hingewiesen werden: „Veröffentlicht mit Unterstützung der mdw – Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien“ bzw. „The authors acknowledge the financial support of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna“ samt mdw-Logo.

This year, the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna announces for the sixth time its internal funding call for scientific publication projects.
The aim of the call is to support excellent publications as part of the career advancement for early-stage researchers, whose dissertation was completed no longer than 5 years ago.

Funding is provided to early-stage researchers at the mdw for publication projects that cannot be financed by third-party funds. These may include book projects (e.g., the publication of dissertations) as well as articles in scientific journals. Standard quality assurance procedures for the respective discipline must be taken into account (e.g., peer review). The publication or documentation of artistic projects and the generation of sources without an independent scientific-interpretative component are not funded. Open access publications are explicitly encouraged.

All direct costs (editing, printing costs, work contracts, and other justified costs such as article/book processing charges, etc.) are eligible for funding, with the exception of translation, presentation and travel costs. Co-financing from own or third-party funds is permitted. Projects should be completed within one year.

A total of € 12,000 is available. An interdisciplinary, internal jury will select up to 5 publication projects from the submitted proposals.

Application documents:

• Application form including a short project description with an outline of the project schedule (max. 300 words) and a short biography of the applicant (max. 300 words)
• Manuscript of the publication (alternatively: concept of planned publication project)
• List of publications
• For dissertation publications: letter of recommendation from the supervisor or an external report, consent for the jury and relevant staff members of the research support to access the result of the check for text identities
• For journal and book contributions: publication commitment and abstract
• In the case of book projects: commitment from the publisher and a cost estimate

The project should be completed within one year. A final report (including a cost statement in tabular form) and, if applicable, a copy of the publication must be submitted to the Research Support Office at the latest three months after the end of the project. In the case of electronic publications, funding recipients are to store the funded publication in pub.mdw including all appendices and research data in mdwRepository.

The mdw funding must be acknowledged in the appropriate form: “This publication has been funded with support from the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna“ or, in German, “Veröffentlicht mit Unterstützung der mdw – Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien“ together with the official mdw logo.
