Liebe Freund:innen der Transkulturalität_mdw,

in wenigen Tagen, am 5. und 6. Mai 2023, findet das Symposium „Music & Racism“ im Zuge der interdisziplinären Vortragsreihe Transkulturalität_mdw statt, zu dem wir Sie noch einmal herzlich einladen möchten.

Das diesjährige Symposium umfasst vielfältige Ansätze und Themen, von Roma-Musik und Antiziganismus über Kreolisierung in New Orleans, Kritik an Kolonialität und Eurozentrismus bis hin zu Rassismus in der westlichen klassischen Musik. Cem Kayas Dokumentarfilm "Aşk, Mark ve Ölüm - Liebe, D-Mark und Tod" (2022) sowie die von Salam Oida und Angie-Shahira Pohl kuratierte künstlerische Performance CARPET CONCERT von Seba Kayan mit EsRAP liefern dabei wichtige Beiträge im Zusammenspiel von künstlerischer Praxis und wissenschaftlicher Forschung.

Den Abschluss unserer zweitägigen Veranstaltung feiern wir in Kollaboration mit Salam Orient – Music and Art Festival in der Festivalzentrale im Spektakel Wien (Hamburgerstraße 14, 1050 Wien).

Dear friends of Transkulturalitaet_mdw,

In a few days, on May 5 and 6, 2023, the symposium "Music & Racism" will take place in the course of the interdisciplinary lecture series Transkulturalitaet_mdw, to which we would like to cordially invite you once more!

This year's symposium encompasses diverse approaches and topics, from Roma music and antiziganism to creolization in New Orleans, critiques of coloniality and Eurocentrism, and racism in Western classical music. Cem Kaya's documentary "Aşk, Mark ve Ölüm - Love, D-Mark and Death" (2022) and Seba Kayan's artistic performance CARPET CONCERT with EsRAP curated by Salam Oida and Angie-Shahira Pohl provide important contributions to the interplay between artistic practice and academic research.

We will celebrate the closing of our two-day event in collaboration with Salam Orient – Music and Art Festival at the festival headquarters at Spektakel Wien (Hamburgerstraße 14, 1050 Vienna).
