Welcome to the new semester! We hope that you have all recharged your batteries over the summer break and are ready to start the new term. There are several opportunities for early-stage researchers in the autumn, and we encourage you to apply for calls that interest you.
☞ Welcome Events for new doctoral students
In order to get first information and orientation, the Graduate Center invites all doctoral students new to the mdw (and the ones, who couldn't make it last year) to our Welcome Event on Friday 11 October 2024 in the afternoon. For further information see our calendar. We are very much looking forward to this event and to meet all new doctoral students. Please save the date and register via graduiertenzentrum@mdw.ac.at.
Part two of the onboarding process is a workshop on Monday, October 14. We will discuss different phases within the doctoral research process and competencies to develop during the doctoral studies. This workshop is aimed specifically at PhD students and will take place from 10-12am. Please register for this event as well via graduiertenzentrum@mdw.ac.at.
We would also like to draw your attention to the possibility of participating in the Doc-Buddy program. The Doc-Buddy group consists of experienced and new doctoral students and offers new students orientation at mdw as well as valuable networking opportunities in the first semester. For this program, too, we ask you to register by October 01 via graduiertenzentrum@mdw.ac.at.
☞ mdw Doctoral Scholarship
The mdw Doctoral scholarship facilitates the production of outstanding dissertations at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Its aim is to support early-stage researchers’ doctoral studies and lend visibility to their achievements in the context of the mdw’s PhD programme. Applications should be sent to stipendium@mdw.ac.at until 15 October 2024. Find all information on the application process here.
☞ Workshop University Teaching
Since early-stage researchers are often involved in university teaching, the Graduate Center has consulted with mwd's university didactics department to offer training in this area. Caroline Ebel, expert in university didactics, teacher in the field of music didactics, supervisor and coach, has developed a comprehensive programme: University didactics workshop on group teaching. This course offered by the Human Resources Development - Center for Further Education and free of charge for mdw members. It is aimed at newcomers to university teaching and at teachers who would like to further develop their pedagogical expertise (in German only).
☞ mdwForum Research Data
The mdwForum Research Data is a platform for researchers, archive and project staff of the mdw to exchange information and experiences. The next meeting will take place online on 24 October 2024. Register for the meet up via Mail to forschungsfoerderung@mdw.ac.at.
☞ Workshop Time Management
Together with the Human Resources Development - Center for Further Education the Graduate Center offers a workshop on Time Management for researchers. Trainer Dr.in Andrea Tschirf-Kainberger supports academics at all career levels at the mdw who want to learn more about time and self-management techniques or improve their own habits and routines in dealing with time. This course is free and will take place on 08 November 2024 from 9:00 to 13:00. You can register for the workshop here.
☞ ÖAW Post-DocTrack
The ÖAW offers post-doc scholarships to recent graduates of doctoral programs to support their transition to the post-doctoral phase. The scholarships aim to facilitate publication completion, research project preparation, and the establishment of networks and collaborations. Applications are open to young academics who have completed their studies within the past six months at an Austrian university. Application ist open until 15 November 2024. ☞ Join the Doctoral Session
Mdw's Doctoral Session will take place in the winter semester of 2024 on 28-29 November. It serves the scientific discourse within the circle of doctoral candidates. You are welcome to attend, listen, and learn about other dissertation projects. If you would like to participate, please send an e-mail to: stdw@mdw.ac.at.
