Best Paper Award Musicologica Austriaca

We are happy to announce that two PhD students of the mdw's first structured doctoral programme have been selected for the Best Paper Award Musicologica Austriaca. Angelica Pinna, who was chosen with her contribution ‘Austria's Memory Turn on Display: Music Exhibitions as Pathways out of Oblivion’ and Isabel Frey, who convinced the jury with her text ‘Musical minhag: Negotiating Prayer Melodies in a Liberal Synagogue in Vienna’. We warmly congratulate.


Welcome Event 2024

Thank you to all the new doctoral students, speakers, and organisers who attended the 2024 Welcome Event for a successful and informative afternoon. It was a pleasure to meet you all and to hear about your research interests. We wish you a good start to your studies at mdw!

Workshop Time Management

Together with the Human Resources Development - Center for Further Education the Graduate Center offers a workshop on Time Management for researchers. Trainer Dr.in Andrea Tschirf-Kainberger supports academics at all career levels at the mdw who want to learn more about time and self-management techniques or improve their own habits and routines in dealing with time. This course is free of charge for mdw members and will take place on 08 November 2024 from 9:00 to 13:00. You can register for the workshop here. 


Workshop University Teaching

Since early-stage researchers are often involved in university teaching, the Graduate Center has consulted with mwd's university didactics department to offer training in this area. Caroline Ebel, expert in university didactics, teacher in the field of music didactics, supervisor and coach, has developed a comprehensive programme: University didactics workshop on group teaching. This course is free of charge for mdw members and it will take place on 12 November 2024 from 9:00 to 12:30 (in German).


Join the Doctoral Session

Mdw's Doctoral Session will take place in the winter semester of 2024 on 28 November 2024. It serves the scientific discourse within the circle of doctoral candidates. You are welcome to attend, listen, and learn about other dissertation projects. If you would like to participate, please send an e-mail to: stdw@mdw.ac.at.


☞ LBG Winter School 2024

Our cooperation partner, the Career Center of the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft, organizes the Winter School "Revise & Revitalize". It offers pre- and post-doc researchers the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of scientific writing and presentation in a productive and supportive atmosphere. The programm will take place from 10-15 February 2024. Application is open for junior and senior researchers affiliated with the mdw. If you are interested in the programme you can join their info session on 14 November. Applications are open until 24 November 2024.
