#17 Newsletter Graduate Center
The new structure of our newsletter is topic-based and no longer based on deadlines. The main topics collected and delivered by the Graduate Center's newsletter are:
networking and exchange with (early-career) researchers, mental health, (transferable) skills, as well as career topics. Further, we send out selected funding opportunities and calls especially for early-career researchers. You will find this structure now also on our website under "workshops and events".


☞ KdW 2025
The Research Conclave “Klausur der Wissenschaften” is a great opportunity to connect with other researchers at mdw and discuss research related topics. This cross-institutional event, yearly organized by the Research Support Office, will take place on March 3, 2025, deadline for application: February 14, 2025.

☞ Enhance your Well-Being
The Mental Wealth Program (MeWe) of LBG's Career Center is structured into seven modules covering topics such as managing emotions, maintaining realistic productivity, and fostering healthy sleep habits. For participation apply now until February 21, 2025 via email to saskia.lackner@lbg.ac.at, including a motivation letter (max. 1 page) + short CV.

☞ Creative video design in knowledge transfer with open source tools
In the workshop offered by the ZfW in cooperation with the research support office, participants learn how to produce their own videos, which they can use to transfer knowledge in their research areas. February 19, 2025, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, February 20, 2025, 9:00, March 20, 2025, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Register here.
☞ Work outside academia
As a bridge builder, the LBG Career Center offers young researchers who have to or want to leave the academic system, the opportunity to participate in a two-month, funded Expert Internship Program with a host organization of their choice outside academia. If you are curious and feel that you lack the necessary practical experience to transition seamlessly into a field outside academia, this might be an interesting offer for you. The Deadline for applications is March 16, 2025.
☞ Skills: LaTeX for beginners
This course offers an introduction to LaTeX, a powerful text typesetting system that is used especially but not only for scientific papers and publications.
LaTeX is now also used in the humanities and social sciences. Participants will learn about the basic functionality of LaTeX (via the free web server Overleaf) and put it into practice. The course is free for mdw members and will take place on Friday April 4, 2025 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM and Friday April 11, 2025 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Please register via ZfW.

☞ International Tonkunst-Prize for Musicology
DIE TONKUNST e. V. will award the “International Tonkunst-Preis for Musicology” for the fourth time. In 2025, the prize will be awarded once each for applications from doctoral and postdoctoral candidates. Deadline: June 30, 2025.
☞ Research Prize of the Margaretha Lupac Foundation 2025
The Research Prize is awarded every two years for either a complete academic work, an academic publication or a completed, assessed dissertation, that promote understanding of the foundations, functioning and fundamental values of the Austrian Republic and contribute to conveying the importance of tolerance in the discourse on issues of politics, art and social developments, see here.
The prize honors outstanding academic achievements that deal with one or more of these topics. Submitted publications/dissertations must not be older than three years. Self-nominations and multiple nominations are possible. The prize is endowed with €21,000 and can be split between up to two applicants. Applications can be submitted between January 15 and June 15, 2025.
