We are here to help you!

Should you feel discriminated against or experience (sexual) harassment, please contact the Working Group for Equal Opportunities (AKG) - in person, by phone or by e-mail.

We will make arrangements for a confidential meeting at the AKG office (Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1, in the Neues Riegel, room L0127). This is usually carried out by the chair, sometimes together with the deputy chair. You are welcome to bring to the discussion a person you trust.

During the discussion, you describe to us what happened to you. You are also welcome to produce SMS, Whatsapp messages, e-mails, recordings etc. showing evidence of the incidents. After giving your account, we will explain to you how we are best able to help. We will also explain to you the potential implications or consequences.

Minutes will be taken of this discussion. Should you wish us to take action, these minutes provide confirmation for our records. These minutes are not made available to anybody without your consent! Should you wish us not to take action, all documentation will remain in our files. You decide whether or not you want us to take action!

If you wish for us to take action, we will make an appointment to talk to the individual against whom you are lodging a complaint once we receive your approval of the minutes. You will be informed by us the moment this individual learns of the appointment. This discussion shall take place without you being present.

Your name will not be mentioned in discussion with the individual concerned. We briefly summarise the circumstances of the case and question the person. Minutes will also be taken of this discussion. These, too, remain confidential.

Following this, we clarify the legal situation with respect to the facts presented.

Possible consequences may include:

  • A change of teacher (if the matter has occurred at a teacher-student level)
Changing teachers is possible even during an ongoing semester!
  • Consequences under employment law (e.g. cases of sexual abuse can lead to the dismissal of the employee in question).
  • Referral to mediators (if you request as such!)
  • police complaint (you can count on our support in this matter)
  • Referral to the Arbitration Commission
  • Appeals against staffing decisions
  • Involvement of the Federal Equal Treatment Commission

After this discussion, we will inform you of the next steps.
We do not take any measures without your consent!

Students at the mdw also have the opportunity to talk to therapists at the psychosocial counselling centre - free of charge, anonymously and in confidence.
