Petra Zenker completed her harpsichord studies with Kenneth Gilbert at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. <\/span>Of<\/span> strong musical influence <\/span>were<\/span> the<\/span> classes with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, <\/span>who taught <\/span>performance practice<\/span> at the Mozarteum Salzburg at that time. <\/span>Additional inspiration was gathered on<\/span> summer courses<\/span> with<\/span> Scott Ross, Jos van Immerseel, Lars Ulrik M<\/span>ortensen and Jesper Christensen.<\/span> S<\/span>he <\/span>held a scholarship at the Conservatory Den Haag where she studied with Bob van Asperen.<\/span><\/p>\n

She regularly performs recitals devoted to the 17th century harpsichord music, including the Italian, Spanish, <\/span>G<\/span>erman<\/span>,<\/span> and English repertoire. <\/span>„mit dem Cembalo durch das 17. Jahrhundert“<\/span> and <\/span>„Musik zwischen Ebbe und Flut“<\/span>, these CDs reflect her affinity to the early harpsichord repertoire.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a continuo player she has worked with a variety of soloists and ensembles<\/span>, and has performed in several opera productions<\/span>. <\/span>d<\/span>ialogo <\/span>c<\/span>hordiale<\/span> is an ensemble initiated by herself.<\/span><\/p>\n

Initially a student of musicology and philology, she gained her PhD at the Mozarteum Salzburg, the theme of her thesis being <\/span>„Theorie und Praxis des Cembalounterrichts im 18. Jahrhundert in Italien“<\/span>. <\/span>Since then, she focusses her research in performance practice on compositional techniques, basso continuo, historical temperaments and ornamentation. Currently, she collaborates on a c<\/span>ollection of sources <\/span>relating to<\/span> the ornamention of keyboard <\/span>music<\/span>, initiated by the former <\/span>Institut f\u00fcr Musikalische Stilforschung<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a teacher she strives to show the compositional structure and process as a means to enlighten the performance. <\/span>„See how the composer worked – and (almost) know how the piece is to be performed“<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n
