Pierre Pitzl studied guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Walter W\u00fcrdinger, where he graduated with honors at the age of 19. He then devoted himself to the lute, chamber music, and basso continuo at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (with Eugen Dombois, Hopkinson Smith, J\u00fcrgen H\u00fcbscher, and Jesper Christensen) and to the viola da gamba at the Conservatory of The Hague (with Wieland Kuijken and Christoph Coin).<\/p>\n

Since then, he has been active as a soloist and accompanist with the baroque guitar and did eecordings and concert activities with Ayre Espanol, Frans Br\u00fcggen, Rene Jacobs, Concerto K\u00f6ln, La Galania, Clemencic Consort, Concentus Musicus Wien, Ensemble Daedalus, Accademia Montis Regalis, among others.<\/p>\n

Pierre Pitzl is the director of the ensemble \u201ePrivate Musicke\u201c with which he has recorded several CDs for ORF Edition Alte Musik, ACCENT and Deutsche Gramophone. They have been distinguished with critical acclaim and international prizes (Diapason D\u2019Or, 5* Fono Forum , Goldberg, BBC Music..).<\/p>\n

Since its founding in 1998, the ensemble has appeared at various European early music festivals (Festival Aix en Provence, Resonanzen Wien, Lucerne Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Festwochen Innsbruck, Helsinki Festival, Teatro Real Madrid, London Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebow, Berlin Kammerphilharmonie a.o.).<\/p>\n

The italien program \u201clettere amorose\u201d with the czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kozena brought them also to Japan, Corea and China.<\/p>\n

Recently, the musician has also been increasingly active as a conductor of projects featuring Baroque vocal and opera music.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Pierre Pitzl is a lecturer at various master classes (Fondazione Giorgo Gini Venice, Hochschule Bremen..) and teaches viola da gamba at the Vienna Conservatory Private University and baroque guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2017\/18, he also held a teaching position for baroque guitar at the University of Music in Bremen.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>
