Badia \u2013 Il Martirio di Santa Susanna (1707)<\/h2>\n<p>The Ursuline convent in Vienna, founded by the Empress Dowager Eleonora Gonzaga-Nevers (1628-1686), became an important center for music in Vienna in the last decades of the 17th century.<\/p>\n<p>The Ursulines, dedicated to the education and training of girls, placed a special emphasis on music and became famous over time for the quality of their performances.<\/p>\n<p>As the imperial family was also frequently present at celebrations at the Ursuline convent, there are a number of works by Carlo Agostino Badia for this special performance venue in the heart of Vienna. The \u201cOratorio di Santa Susanna\u201d was first performed in 1707, on the feast of St. Ursula on October 21.
