These include aesthetic concepts of keyboard playing, the spread of the harpsichord in the 16th century, keyboard notation and its distinctive features, issues of tempo, rhythm, and ornamentation, as well as iconographic sources as a basis for reconstructing playing techniques.<\/p>\n<p>It brings together the results of a conference held in 2021 at the mdw \u2013 University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The contributions cover a broad spectrum of aspects of musical style, repertoire, and performance practice, as well as the sociocultural significance of plucked instruments in the 16th century. The book is intended for musicologists and musicians.<\/p>\n<p>Published in Open Access as an HTML version in June 2024<\/p>\n<p>About the Editors<br \/>\n<strong>Augusta Campagne<\/strong> taught harpsichord and basso continuo at the mdw \u2013 University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Her research focuses on early keyboard accompaniment and harpsichord music of the long 16th century.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Markus Grassl<\/strong> is a professor at the Institute for Musicology and Performance Studies at the mdw \u2013 University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
