In 1998, she earned her concert diploma under Philippe Racine at the Zurich University of the Arts, followed by a diploma in early music from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, majoring in flauto traverso, and a Master of Music degree from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague under Barthold Kuijken. In 1998, Claire Genewein received a special prize from Karlheinz Stockhausen for her interpretation of *Zungenspitzentanz* for solo piccolo and, in the same year, took second place at the international NFA Piccolo Competition in Phoenix, USA. In 2000, together with the percussion ensemble anthos, she won first prize for her performance of Stockhausen\u2019s *Kathinka\u2019s Song*, and in 2004, she won second prize at the National Flute Organization\u2019s (USA) Traverso Competition.<\/p>\n<p>As part of her research for her Doctor of Performing and Creative Arts degree, which she completed in June 2014 with the thesis \u201cVocal Instrumental Performance in the Second Half of the 18th Century: The Performance Practice of Italian Instrumental Music in Relation to Vocal Music and Text: Sources and Modern Interpretations,\u201d she collaborated with Andrea Marcon to reconstruct Baldassare Galuppi\u2019s opera L\u2019Olimpiade and staged it at the Teatro Malibran in Venice in 2006 (L\u2019Olimpiade, DVD Dynamik 2009).<\/p>\n<p>Claire Genewein performs as a flutist in various ensembles, including La Cetra, the Venice Baroque Orchestra, L&#8217;Orfeo Baroque Orchestra, the Bach Foundation of St. Gallen, Ensemble Miroir, L&#8217;Arcadia, and the Basel Chamber Orchestra. She has performed under the direction of Michi Gaigg, Gustav Leonhardt, Andrea Marcon, Jordi Savall, Geoffrey Lancaster, William Christie, Ruedi Lutz, and others. Numerous CD and radio recordings document her work, including the Sonatas, Op. II, by the Swiss composer Gasparo Fritz (a CD production in collaboration with the Zurich Central Library, Guild 2009), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\u2019s *The Magic Flute* in a 1793 arrangement for flute quartet (CD, ORF 2010), and *Italian Rococo at The Ermitage*: chamber music and flute concertos by Baldassare Galuppi, Giovanni Paisiello, Ferdinand Titz, Tommaso Giordani, and La Cetra (CD 2013). Since fall 2006, Claire Genewein has taught transverse flute and historical performance practice at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz (A), and since 2010 at the Zurich University of the Arts.
