Contemporary Arts Practice is an artistic-scientific Master’s degree programme. It qualifies students to collaboratively develop and realise inter- and transdisciplinary artistic and art mediation projects in one of the study profiles to be selected.
The following profiles are offered:
- Elementary Music Making
- Improviser*Composer-Performer
- Music Mediation/ Community Music
- Transmedia Performance
Students from all study profiles also take the central artistic subject Contemporary Arts Practice together. The programme focuses on the development, academic foundation and implementation of an individual project in the context of one of the four profiles. The resulting Master’s thesis can be based on artistic research methods.
The aim of the artistic-scientific Master’s programme CAP is to provide artists with a contemporary, well-founded artistic qualification to enable them to act competently, innovatively and professionally in a changing professional field at the beginning of the 21st century.
This qualification includes the examination of artistic forms of expression, techniques and processes, the deepening of one’s own artistic language, collaborative working methods, the scientific foundation of artistic practice, insights into socio-economic and socio-political structures of cultural landscapes as well as organisational and (self-) management skills.
The interfaces of the four study profiles are translation and transformation of moment-related events into an independent artistic form, inter- and transdisciplinary artistic practice as well as the creation of spaces and testing of inclusive practices for the negotiation and strengthening of cultural participation and involvement.
The programme thus represents an innovative extension of artistic education at art colleges and universities. It can serve as a basis for a subsequent artistic or scientific doctoral programme. (translated by DeepL)
