The Austrian sound artist Christine Schörkhuber presents ththbrsh, realized in conjunction with the artistic research project AUDIO GHOSTS: Illusive perceptions – Perceptual illusions.
Auditory illusions often occur randomly, ghostly and unrecognizable in everyday life, accompanying us consciously or unconsciously through our daily routines. Since the beginning of electrification, electricity has been associated with supernatural phenomena. (Auditory) Illusions generated by the flow of electricity are often the messenger of delusions or metaphysical events in cinematic narratives. Christine Schörkhuber placed these phenomena at the center of her considerations and chose electric toothbrushes as the object of her artistic research, manipulating these widely used everyday electrical appliances, which are rich in overtones, in such a way that they can be set to different vibrational states in a targeted and controlled manner using a programmed current control via microcontrollers. This way, certain auditory illusions are created that can be selectively reproduced through the interactions of the exhibition visitors. [C. Schörkhuber]
