4. Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition 2019

The 4th Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition took place from 4 - 7 February 2019. The aim of the competition is the creation and dissemination of new piano works for children or young people. 

From 151 pieces submitted from 38 countries, a distinguished jury nominated the pieces for the final, which were performed by students and discussed in public as part of the Vienna Days of Contemporary Piano Music.

 

Prize Winners

 

1. Prize: Ayaz Gambarli (Azerbaijan)
for his work Mirage"

3. Prize: Dimitris Maronidis (Greece)
for his work "4 (Hommage) Études"

Commendation: Ignacio Brasa Gutiérrez (Spain) 
for his work "Tacto"

Commendation: Jens Klimek (Germany)
for his work "Die Planeten"

Commendation: Stephan Lewandowski (Germany)
for his work "Geheimnisvolle Kurzgeschichte in 4 Abschnitten (Mysterious short story in 4 sections)"

 

Another first prize was awarded to Pamela Viglione. However, she did not accept the prize as she did not agree to her piece being published by a publishing house.
