2. Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition 2013

After the great success of the first edition in 2010, the mdw added the Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition of the Ludwig van Beethoven Department of Piano in Music Education to its series of regularly organised competitions. The 2nd Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition took place from 11 - 15 February 2013. The aim of the competition is the creation and dissemination of new piano works for children or young people

From 258 compositions submitted from 49 different countries, five jurors selected 21 works and nominated them for the presentations and public discussions during the 21st Days of Contemporary Piano Music. For the first time, the audience was able to participate via livestream and witness the public discussions in which the jury debated the artistic quality of the pieces as well as the limits of the technical possibilities of children and young people.
