Colours of my Mother
Digital Video – 1min05
The video was created in the centre of the lab in response to the stimulus: Describe your mother visually.
The video shows 16 differently coloured, equally sized, centrally positioned squares, which are visible every three seconds. In the last dark red square, after two seconds, the name Pierette is faded in at the bottom right of the coloured square in white lettering and without capital letters at the beginning. The lettering remains and in the next square a close-up of a woman’s laughing mouth with lipstick in the colour of the last square can be seen.
In the reflection, the artist researcher reports that all the colours shown are colours that the mother likes to wear. The artist researcher associates these colours with her.
Which colours do I associate with my mother?
What stories do I associate with these colours?
Which of these colours do I wear myself or have around me?
Why does my mother like these colours?
What do I observe when I watch the video and its colours?
What stories emerge?
What biographical narratives emerge in me?
