My Father’s Responsibilities

1 mobile video – 00min26

The video was created from the impulse:

Where do I perceive my father/fathers in my being/life/body/future?

The video was made at home in the second laboratory on the topic of father/fathers.

The video shows a white stone lying in a terracotta flowerpot on black soil. Water is poured over the stone from outside the frame, which remains unchanged centrally in the picture.

This was about my father’s role. Somehow, my father was always the rock in the surf, always reliable, always there. However, when my father saw my mother’s timeline during the lab, he said, “Look, I’m not a rock in the surf at all; Mom actually is.”

What role do I intuitively assign to my father?

What role do I feel is more frequently assigned to fathers by society?

How different are these role assignments depending on social class, time, educational background, body, age, and place?

How would I represent this societal role non-verbally and artistically?

How do I and others recognize this role?

What role do I feel I am assigned?

How would my father describe his role?

How has this role changed over time?
