Pictures Of My Mother

3 photos of drawings

This artefact exists as a drawing by two Artist Researchers. The photos of these drawings can be seen here.

It emerged from a group exploration in pairs on the question of love, motherly love, love of the mother, love of the mother. At the time of the exploration, the group already knew each other very well; the exploration took place towards the end of the lab.

The impulse was: Where is the mother’s love? Where do I notice, where do I recognise my mother’s love?

Before this impulse was worked on in the group of two, there was a physical impulse for each individual: Where do I feel my mother? Using the 5×5 scheme, we each searched for 15 minutes for the gesture and the area of the body that most strongly carries the physical memory of the mother.

When the artist researchers, who then worked together on a joint artistic translation, showed each other their gestures, they had the feeling that a different impulse was more appropriate at the moment:

If someone doesn’t know my mother, how does this person recognise my mother?

This question gave rise to a catalogue of things that would make her mother recognisable to a stranger.

The catalogue drawn is very similar in visual form, the chosen characteristics of the respective mother are partly overlapping.
