The Mentees

Julia Ackermann studied musicology, cultural management and German literature in Weimar, Jena and Paris and subsequently worked as a museum educator and music dramaturge. Since 2014 she has been a scientific associate in various research projects at the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies at the University of Performing Arts, Vienna. Within the FWF project Cultural Transfer of Music in Vienna, 1755–1780 (2014–2018), she wrote her dissertation on the Opéra comique in Vienna 1768–1783. Around the Beethoven Year 2020, she dealt with the topics of memory and remembrance culture in the project Erinnerungsort Beethoven: Theater an der Wien. In the following project Paper and Copyists in Viennese Opera Scores 1760–1775, she conducted basic philological research. In her current project she is investigating the phenomenon of Musician Families: Constellations and Concepts from the 18th to the 21st century. (Foto: Barbara Mair)

Julia Fent studied voice (Prayner Conservatory, diploma 2006) and music therapy (mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Mag.a art 2012) in Vienna. In November 2021, she completed her doctoral studies in Gender Studies at mdw with distinction (title of the dissertation: "Anti-discriminatory Perspectives on Music Therapy and its Contexts"). Julia Fent has been a research associate at the Music Therapy Research Center Vienna (Department of Music Therapy) at mdw since 2021. At the moment, she is leading the research projects "My Tune. Music therapy from our perspectives," (together with Irene Stepniczka) and "REFLEᵃCT: Formulating requirements and potentials for music therapy in the context of social inequalities and mental health". Her research interests are anti-discriminatory perspectives, social justice, qualitative and participatory research approaches, and discourse analysis. (Foto: privat)

Constanze Marie Köhn studied musicology at the University of Vienna (B.A.), Heidelberg University (M.A.), and the University of Pavia in Cremona (Erasmus). She joined the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies at the University of Music and Performing Art Vienna as a research associate in 2017. She has since worked in the FWF projects “Cultural Transfer of Music in Vienna, 1755–1780” (2017–2020) and “Paper and Copyists in Viennese Opera Scores, 1760–70” (since 2021). She is a PhD-candidate with a project focusing on aristocratic mentors of oratorio performances in Vienna between 1780 and 1810, a time of great political and social changes, with special emphasis on the so-called “Gesellschaft der associierten Cavaliers.”(Foto: Michael Wögerbauer)

Mag.a phil, Mag.a art Monika Marik, PhD studied music therapy at the mdw and psychology at the University of Vienna. Since 2011 she has been a licenced music therapist as well as a clinical psychologist, working with children and young people. Since 2017 she has been a lecturer at the Institute of Music Therapy. Additional qualifications: psychotherapeutic propaedeuticum (ÖAGG; 2012-2013); certificate course AQR - Assessment of the quality of relationship (Karin Schumacher, Zurich/Berlin, 2014-2016). Her research focuses on emotion regulation, music therapy during childhood and assessment. She completed her doctoral thesis: “The contribution of music therapy to conceptualisation and assessment of emotion(dys)regulation during childhood” at the Institute of Music Therapy in 2023. Her work life focuses on the combination of research, teaching and therapeutical work. She is a grant holder of the mdw as well as the SYLFF Association within the SYLFF Fellowship. (Foto: privat)

Anna-Maria Niemand is a musicologist, working in the field of music history, music psychology and music physiology. She is a PhD candidate in the project Achieving Togetherness in Ensemble Performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, working on respiration during music performance. She completed her MA at the University of Vienna with distinction, winning an award for her thesis on Singers Body Positions and Vocal Abilities at the Opera Stage. Furthermore, she completed postgraduate education programs in academic respiration pedagogy and music physiology and worked in projects studying music in 19th century print media.(Foto: Katharina Stögmüller)

Julia Ostwald is a university assistant (postdoc) in Gender Studies at the IKM at mdw. She studied Dance Education (BA) in Tilburg (NL) and Lisbon (PT) and Dance Studies (MA) at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Antwerp (BE). She completed her doctorate in Dance Studies in 2021 with the thesis Choreophonies. Constellations of Body and Voice in Dance of Modernity and Presence (Critical Dance Studies series, transcript in prep.) at the University of Salzburg. From 2016-2021 she worked as a project assistant in the doctoral program gender_transcultural and at the Department of Art, Music and Dance Studies at the University of Salzburg. She was a Visiting Scholar at the Beijing Dance Academy (CN) (2019), an invited participant of various practice-theory formats (including TQW, Forschungsakademie ZHdK), and previously worked as a community dance artist in Germany and Austria for many years. Her interests in teaching and research are historical and contemporary entanglements of aesthetics and (body-)politics as well as interdependent and cultural theoretical questions in the context of dance, choreography and performative arts. She is currently preparing a habilitation project on aesthetic-political dimensions of breathing in stage dance of modernity (18th-early 20th century). (Foto: privat)

Eva Phan Quoc is a certified music therapist, senior scientist and lecturer at the Music Therapy Research Centre Vienna (WZMF), Department of Music Therapy, mdw − University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. Her main clinical and research areas are attachment-based music therapy, early childhood music therapy, family settings and music therapy assessments. In the past two years, she has been intensively involved in coordinating activities of the international Network “Music Therapy with Families Hub”. Gabrielle Prud’homme is a PhD student at the Institut für Musikwissenschaft und Interpretationsforschung at mdw under the joint supervision of Fritz Trümpi (mdw) and Marie-Hélène Benoit-Otis (Université de Montréal), as well as a member of the Canadian Research Chair for Music and Politics. In her dissertation, she explores the reconstruction of musical life in Austria in the early post-war years through the lens of a comparative study of the celebrations commemorating composers traditionally associated to the Austro-German canon from 1945 to 1949. Along with her doctoral project, she conducts research on transnational musical activities by investigating more specifically the musical exchanges within the Rome–Berlin Axis during the Second World War, and within post-war Europe during the restoration of democracy. Elisabeth Reisinger has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies and the principal investigator of the FWF funded research project “Performers as Commissioners of New Music in the Twentieth Century” since October 2021. She studied musicology and history at the University of Vienna, where she was engaged in several research projects on court music culture in Germany during the late eighteenth century. In 2019, Reisinger was a postdoctoral fellow at the Austrian Historical Institute in Rome and subsequently at Harvard University’s Department of Music. She has been teaching at the University of Vienna, the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the mdw. Since 2017, she has been Secretary General of the Austrian Society for Musicology.
