Dora Pejačević (1885–1923)
Within the framework of the Gender Call_mdw 2015, two concert projects on the composer Dora Pejačević (1885-1923) were submitted and funded.
At the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, however, a significant contribution to the rediscovery of Dora Pejačević (1885-1923) had already been made in the early 2000s. On the initiative of the music sociologist Elena Ostleitner, the first musicological symposium with a final concert on this outstanding composer of Croatian modernism had been held in March 2001. This symposium and the volume "Die kroatische Komponistin Dora Pejačević (1885-1923)," edited by Elena Ostleitner (Furore Verlag Kassel 2001), published in the same year, as well as the CDs released in the series "Frauentöne," continued with commitment the rediscovery of the composer begun by Pejačević biographer Koraljka Kos in 1985.
The two current Dora Pejačević projects at the mdw (chamber music and piano works) thus follow on from a scholarly examination of the life and work of Dora Pejačević and aim to make the musical œuvre of this composer known to a wider public as well as among the students of the mdw.
The complete works of the composer have recently been published (2011-2015) on the cpo label.
