Subject Area of Art Song|Oratorio|Concert
In the field of vocal music, the Lied offers the greatest scope for subjective personal composition and is at the same time subject to specific stylistic and musical rules. Essential, but somewhat narrower, is the personal creative framework in oratorio and concerto. In the Lied, Oratorio, and Concert (Master's and PGL) program, we explore the balance between subjectivity and objectivity and the possibilities for imaginative and colorful presentation in these art forms, starting with textual knowledge and interpretation and learning the performing "tools" such as pronunciation, stylistics, and speech and vocal phrasing. Through the close cooperation with the course of studies "Konzertfach Liedgestaltung Klavier", student Lied duos are formed, which perform publicly in regular concert formats, e.g. at the Schubert Society Vienna, the Musikverein Vienna, the Schönbrunn Palace Theater or the Ehrbarsaal. The annual oratorio concert with the Webern Chamber Philharmonic under the direction of Erwin Ortner is the highlight of our work in oratorio/concert at the mdw.
