Univ,.Prof. Peter Edelmann, BaritonPeter Edelman was born in Vienna. Singing lessons with his father Otto Edelmann and at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Vienna. After finishing with the diploma he debuted in the role of Herrufer in Wagner's Lohengrin at the Stadttheater Koblenz. In 5 seasons he sings more than 25 rolls of purely baritone repertoire. In addition, he gives guest performances in Dortmund, Pforzheim, Mannheim, Trier, Saarbrücken and Krefeld. 1989 winner of the Grand Prize, the Mozart Prize and 7 special prizes at Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna.

1990 he becomes part of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. His debut there is given as Figaro in "Il barbiere di Siviglia". Other roles in Berlin include .: Tsar Peter I, Papageno, Guglielmo, Count Almaviva, Marcello, tungsten, Melot, Valentin, Morales, Pluto, Master Ford, father in "Hansel and Gretel", Albert, Mercutio. live guest performances at the Vienna Volksoper, Mörbischer Seefestspiele, Semperoper in Dresden, the Theater am Gärtnerplatz München, Hamburg Staatsopeer, Wiener Staatsoper Opera, the Schwetzingen Festival, Komische Oper Berlin. Since 2001, Peter Edelmann is working freelance and lives in Vienna.

He sings at the Staatsoper Stuttgart, Wiesbaden State Theatre, State Theatre Karlsruhe, Berlin State Opera Berlin, Zurich Opera, Stadttheater Bern, Grand Theatre Geneve, Graz Opera, Teatro San Carlo Napoli, Teatro la Fenice Venezia, Opéra Royale de Wallonie Liège, Antwerp, Gent, the Theatre de la Monnaie Brussels, Paris, Opéra National Nancy, Opéra Toulon, Theatre du Capitole Toulouse, Opera Festival Las Palmas, Festival San Sebastian, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, New Israeli Opera Tel Aviv, Washington Opera, Seattle Opera, San Diego Opera , Orlando Opera, Opera Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Macau Festival, Moscow, Prague National Opera. He expands his repertoire that includes more than 75 roles with roles such as: Faninal, Orest, Onegin, Escamillo, Don Alfonso, Don Giovanni, Figaro, Leporello, King (The Wise), Gyges (King Candaules).

He sings with conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Franz Welser-Möst, Lawrence Foster, Heinrich Hollreiser, Jiri Kout, Claude Schnitzler, Pinchas Steinberg, John Eliot Gardiner, Christopher Hogwood, Friedemann Layer, Alfred Eschwé, Niels Muus, Gabriele Ferro, Bruno Weil, Eliahu Inbal, Yuri Bashmet, Rudolf Nureyev. He works among directors Götz Friedrich, Günther Krämer, Willi Decker, David Pountney, Jean-Claude Berutti, Jean-Louis Martinotty, Klaus Michael Grüber, Hellmuth Matiasek, Lotfi Mansouri, Phillip sky Man, Mario Pontiggia, Robert Herzl. Apart from the opera Peter Edelmann is dedicated to concert- and Lieder singing. He has held concerts amongst others at the Newport Music Festival (USA), the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, the Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Konzerthaus, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Berlin Konzerthaus, Teatro Espanol Madrid, Suntory Hall Tokyo, Schubertiade Roskilde, National Gallery, Washington DC., Tchaikovsky Hall Moscow, Walt Disney Hall, Los Angeles.

In 2005 he founded the OTTO EDELMANN SOCIETY with his wife Sylvia Saavedra Edelmann. Its onjective  is to help young singers who have completed the studies in finding their way in an operatic profession. Besides concerts, there are audition workshops held every year. So far, over 50 singers participated in this program.

Peter Edelmann can be heard on numerous CDs and videos. He has appeared repeatedly on TV and was involved in live television broadcasts.

Since 2010, Peter Edelmann Professor, Department of Voice and Music Theatre of the mdw and, from 2014 til September 2017 Director of Department. 2017-2022 he was the artistic direcotr of the Seefestspiele Mörbisch.
