Austrian baritone Florian Boesch is counted as one of today’s foremost Lieder interpreters with appearances at Wigmore Hall, Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Philharmonie Cologne, Edinburgh and Schwetzingen Festival, Maifestspiele Wiesbaden, at the Konzerthaus in Dortmund, Philharmonie Luxemburg as well as throughout the USA (Carnegie Hall) and Canada. Accompanied by Malcolm Martineau, he performed the complete Schubert cycle in Glasgow and in Australia (Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne). Florian Boesch was an artist in residence at the Wigmore Hall (2014/2015 season) and at the Konzerthaus in Vienna (2016/2017 season).
During the season of 2017/18 Florian Boesch will give recitals at the Philharmonie Luxemburg, at the Wigmore Hall, at the Konzerthaus Dortmund, at the Musikverein Vienna and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam with the pianists Justus Zeyen or Malcolm Martineau. Further he will appear on the concert podium with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle on tour at the Salzburg and Lucerne Festival and at the Philharmonie Berlin and Paris (J.Haydn: THE CREATION), the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Mariss Jansons (L.v. Beethoven: MASS C MAJOR), the Orchester der Wiener Akademie (G.F. Handel: RADAMISTO), the Lautten Compagney at the Musikverein Vienna (G.F. Handel: MESSIAH), the Concentus Musicus (Schubert Lieder) and the Musikkollegium Winterthur (J. Haydn: THE CREATION). The project “Alles wieder gut” with the Musicbanda Franui which had its premiere in April 2017 will be presented at the Klara Festival in Brussels and at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
As a frequent guest on the concert platform Mr Boesch has worked with leading orchestras and conductors such as Wiener and Berliner Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw Orkest Amsterdam, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, London Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Bamberger Symphoniker, and Ivor Bolton, Riccardo Chailly, Gustavo Dudamel, Adam Fischer, Iván Fischer, Valery Gergiev, Philippe Herreweghe, Matthew Halls, Paul McCreesh, Sir Roger Norrington, Sir Simon Rattle, Robin Ticciati and Franz Welser-Möst. He worked very closely with Nikolaus Harnoncourt with whom he did MESSIAH and SAUL at the Wiener Musikverein and Purcell’s THE FAIRY QUEEN at the 2014 styriarte festival. Further joint projects included Haydn’s DIE SCHÖPFUNG and DIE JAHRESZEITEN at the 2013 Salzburg Festival, or DIE SCHÖPFUNG in Japan.
Florian Boesch recently appeared more frequently on the opera stage; last season he sang Zebul in Handel’s JEPHTA at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, in a new production of Purcell’s FAIRY QUEEN at the Theater an der Wien as well as the Méphistohélès in Berlioz’ LA DAMNATION DE FAUST at the Staatsoper im Schillertheater in Berlin. Further successes in the past were Schubert’s LAZARUS, Handel’s MESSIAH and Weill’s DIE DREIGROSCHENOPER at the Theater an der Wien, WOZZECK in Cologne or COSI FAN TUTTE at the Salzburg Festival. This up-coming season Florian Boesch can be heard in the title role of Berg’s WOZZECK and in the title role of Handel’s SAUL, both at the Theater an der Wien.
His recordings of Lieder and ballads have been highly acclaimed by the international press and he received amongst others the prestigious Edison Klassiek Award. DIE SCHÖNE MÜLLERIN was nominated for the Grammy 2015 in the category Best Classical Vocal solo. On September 1st a new recording of Schubert’s WINTERREISE with Roger Vignoles will be released by hyperion.
Florian Boesch received his initial vocal trainings from KS Ruthilde Boesch and later studied Lied and oratorio with KS Robert Holl in Vienna.
From 2017 til 2021 he was Deputy Head of the Department of Vocal Studies and Music Theatre.
