Christoph Ulrich Meier, DirigentChristoph Ulrich Meier was born in Ulm (Germany) in 1968. His first musical engagements were at the theaters of Coburg and Münster. In 1993 he moved as assistant of Daniel Barenboim to the opera house Unter den Linden, Berlin. Furthermore, he worked with Zubin Metha, Claudio Abbado and Valery Gergiev.

He has been part of the Bayreuth Festival since 1992, first as assistant of James Levine, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Christian Thielemann. He stepped in for Fabio Luisi as conductor of Tannhäuser in 2007. He currently acts as musical supervisor of the Bayreuth Festival.

As guest conductor he performed at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Oper Frankfurt am Main, Teatro La Fenice Venezia, Gärtnerplatztheater München, Nagoya Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre Genève, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. He worked as Lieder accompanist with singers such as Waltraud Meier, Mihoko Fujimura and Peter Schreier and is professor of musical interpretation initially at Musikhochschule Detmold and since 2010 at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts.
