Helen Malkowsky is a native of Dresden. She first graduated as a graduate orchestral musician with a major in flute at the Hochschule für Musik in her hometown and then turned to scenic theater work.

Helen Malkowsky was the head director and director of the International Opera Studio at the Staatstheater Nuremberg from 2004 - 08, opera director of the Theater Bielefeld from 2010 to 2013, and in-house director and advisor to the artistic director for musical theater at the Theater Chemnitz from 2014 - 17.
