Markus Hadulla, PianistThe Cologne-born pianist, Markus Hadulla, was interested in the combination of literature and music from an early age, in addition to the solo repertoire. He began his studies with the lied pianist Hartmut Höll in Karlsruhe. Further studies followed with Anne Grappotte at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and in the USA at Yale University/School of Music with Peter Frankl. He attracted early attention by winning the prize for the best pianist at the VII. International Hugo Wolf Competition in Stuttgart in 1994 and was subsequently invited by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau to join his Berlin Lied class.

Since then Markus Hadulla has made a name for himself especially as a lied pianist and chamber music partner. The press has judged his nuanced and colorful playing: "The extensive palette of his tonal possibilities and the virtuosity with which he uses them are nothing short of astounding."

He has performed with renowned vocal partners such as Sandrine Piau, Janina Baechle, Stella Doufexis, Christianne Stotijn, Rainer Trost, Markus Schäfer and Udo Reinemann. Among his chamber music partners are Daishin Kashimoto, Tianwa Yang, Wolfgang Meyer, Sebastian Manz, Claudio Bohorquez, Tabea Zimmermann and Antoine Tamestit. Programs combining music and literature were created in collaboration with writers Peter Härtling, Inge and Walter Jens, director Norbert Beilharz and also with actors and speakers Udo Samel, Rudolf Guckelsberger and Reinhold Ohngemach.

Concerts have taken Markus Hadulla to the most important concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall London, the Konzerthaus Vienna, the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, the Teatro La Fenice, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall New York and to festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Lucerne Festival, Festival de la Roque d'Antheron as well as to South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and the USA.

After teaching at the Universities of Music in Berlin "Hanns Eisler" and Karlsruhe, Markus Hadulla teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as a professor for piano-vocal accompaniment. He also gives seminars for German Lied at the Conservatorio Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and holds selected master classes such as at the Savonlinna Music Academy in Finland, at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, at the Chopin University in Warsaw and regularly at the festival "Les heures romantiques entre Loire et Loir" in Touraine/France, which he also serves as a member of the artistic direction since 2013. Since 2001, he has been artistic director of the literary-musical concert series "wort+ton" in Winnenden, Württemberg, which delights audiences and press alike with innovative program concepts.

Recordings of solo, chamber music and song repertoire have been made for television as well as for various radio stations. His discography includes productions for the claves, Bayerrecords, Naxos, Audite, Marsyas, Naïve and Capriccio labels, several recordings of which have been awarded international prizes such as the Diapason d'or, Choc de Classica, the Orphée d'or Prix Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and the Jahrespreis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
