virtual platform – spiel|mach|t|raum. frauen* an der mdw 1817-2017
The virtual platform spiel|mach|t|raum, which will be presented on the occasion of 200 years of the mdw on March 8, 2017, is a knowledge platform that spotlights the history of women* at the institution. The name and the contents go back to an exhibition of 2011, whose contributions were edited and updated for the internet. The virtual platform sees itself as a work in progress and would like to encourage the mdw to bring (much) more gender knowledge in music*theater*film to light - according to the motto: towards a lived, actual gender democracy at an artistic and scientific educational institution.

spiel macht raum - a game opens a space, creates possibilities, who is allowed to play, who can enter the space, what are the requirements? spiel macht traum - but play also creates imaginary spaces, dreams that can be worked on. With the naming of the new hall of the Center for Continuing Education as spiel|mach|t|raum, the virtual platform is transferred to a real space of the mdw. Each year the room will be dedicated to a different woman* from the history of the mdw: in 2017 it is Franziska Itzig / Freifrau Fanny von Arnstein (1758-1818).
