Gender & diversity competence
The definition presented here was worked out as part of the mdw diversity strategy. It serves as the foundation for a binding, mutual understanding of gender and diversity competence and applies to all members of mdw—teachers, staff, and administration.
Gender and diversity competence is comprised of competence at the three levels knowledge (analysis), recognition (reflection), and action. Gender and diversity competence thus describes the ability:
• to carry out analyses based on the knowledge of socially constructed relations of inequality with regard to the various dimensions of diversity (gender, origins, age, sexual orientation, disabilities, etc.),
• to recognize one’s own socialization (values, norms, expectations, etc.) as well as their effects on one’s own action
• …to develop and act on the basis of these processes. .[1]
