Salzburg native Andrea Hampl received her initial instruction on the harp from Berta Höller and then took lessons from Christiane Oberleitner at the music school in Vöcklabruck, Upper Austria. She went on to study harp at the mdw with Prof. Adelheid Blovsky-Miller and completed her Mag.a art. degree with honours, after which she pursued further studies with Prof. Arcola Clark at the University of Music and Performing Ars Graz.

Alongside her activities in the classical realm, Hampl has worked to uphold the traditional folk repertoire (with ensembles such as Vöcklabrucker Saitenmusik, Laxenburger Spielmusik, the harp duo “saitnvakehrt”, and Saitnswinger). She has taught at various music schools (in Vöcklabruck, in Laxenburg-Biedermannsdorf, and at the J. S. Bach Music School in Vienna) as well as been involved with various harp courses such as the “Steirischer Harfenkurs”, which she has headed since 1996.

Andrea Hampl performs as a soloist and chamber musician in Austria (including as part of Trio Mélisande), she played in the Orchestra of the Vienna Burgtheater from 1994 to 1999, and she has also performed with the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra, Camerata pannonica, Junges Orchester Wien, and the Vienna State Opera as well as worked together with the Austrian Society for Contemporary Music (ÖGZM) to mount numerous world permière performances. She has taught at the mdw since 1997.
