Clara Schwaiger was born in Salzburg in 1990 and began studying violin in the preparatory programme of Mozarteum University Salzburg in 1999. She initially took violin lessons from Erika Lösch before switching in 2005 to viola lessons with Peter Langgartner, under whose tutelage she entered the Mozarteum’s viola programme as a degree student in 2009. Schwaiger transferred to the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 2010, where she continued her studies with Prof. Thomas Selditz and ultimately graduated with honours in 2016. That autumn, she was hired as an artistic-pedagogical training assistant in the class of Thomas Selditz.

Clara Schwaiger is a member of multiple chamber music ensembles and a regular substitute in orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, the Wiener Symphoniker, and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg.

As a chamber musician, she has already worked together with such renowned artists as Christian Altenburger, Ernst Kovacic, Christoph Schiller, Reinhard Latzko, and Thomas Selditz. She has soloed in works including Paul Hindemith’s Der Schwanendreher with the Philharmonie Baden-Baden and Ignaz Pleyel’s Sinfonia Concertante with Academia Allegro Vivo.
