Elisabeth Meissl-Pfefferkorn was born in Bregenz and trained musically at the conservatory there under Prof. Heinrich Schiff. Following graduation from secondary school, she studied music at what is now the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Prof. Tobias Kühne, completing her performance diploma and certification as a cello teacher with honours.
She also studied Music Education for Voice and Instruments with Prof. Ulrike Groier—and after earning her teaching certification for recorder with honours, she audited the teaching of Prof. Valentin Erben and participated in courses taught by Prof. Heinrich Schiff.

Meissl-Pfefferkorn has worked at the mdw since 1988, teaching the main artistic subject of Violoncello to IGP and ME degree students as well as the subject Teaching Practice both for IGP students and as an elective for future Tonmeisters, composers, and conductors.

As an artist, her activities have included performing in the solo cellist position with the Vienna Chamber Philharmonic and the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra, performances with other ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, the Vienna RSO, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Salzburg Baroque Ensemble, and various chamber music formations, premières of works by Austrian composers, and participation in broadcast and CD recordings.
