Programme objective:
Certification to teach 2 instruments or
1 instrument and voice in academic secondary schools (AHS)
Teaching activities may include:
Instrumental and/or voice instruction as an optional subject at academic secondary schools and as a compulsory subject in special upper-cycle programmes. Teaching of groups.
Admission criteria:
The level of skill demonstrated by the applicant in the entrance examination must be such that the level needed to teach this instrument and/or voice can be attained within this programme of study.
Entrance Examination:
As a 1st Instrument (corresponds to BA IGP)
- 2 etudes, e.g., by L. Brouwer, S. Sor, or N. Costé (or equivalent performance pieces of an etude-like character)
- 3 performance works of moderate difficulty from
3 different eras
As a 2nd instrument (corresponds to ME: 1st instrument and IGP: complementary 2nd instrument):
3 performance pieces of moderate difficulty from different stylistic eras (playing time: at least 10 min.). If the candidate chooses to include an improvisation or composition in a popular style as one of these pieces, this shall count as a piece from the realm of contemporary music.
Bachelor’s degree examination:
As a 1st instrument (corresponds to IGP: bachelor’s degree examination)
- Etudes:
2 etudes by Sor, Guiliani, Villa-Lobos, or similar - Renaissance:
1 work or a group of works by Dowland, Mudarra, Narvaez, or similar - Baroque:
1 cyclical work (e.g., Weiss, Visée, Roncalli, etc.) or at least 3 movements of a suite by Bach or an individual work of at least 5 minutes’ duration - Classical:
1 cyclical work (sonata, variations) or a single-movement work of at least 5 minutes’ duration - 20th/21st century:
1 work each from
a) the Spanish / South American repertoire
b) the realm of contemporary music
of at least 5 minutes’ duration each
Overall programme duration: at least ca. 30 minutes.
As a 2nd instrument (corresponds to ME: 1st instrument and IGP: complementary 2nd instrument)
- 2 etudes at a level of difficulty equivalent to that of Brouwer, Sor op. 60, Villa-Lobos No. 8
- 3 movements from a baroque suite (Bach, Weiss, Brescianello, Visée)
- 1 work from the classical or romantic period, minimum duration: 5 min.
- 1 work from the 20th or 21st century that differs significantly from the Spanish / Latin American repertoire, minimum duration:
5 minutes - One freely chosen piece, which can also be chamber music together with instruments other than guitar
One’s chosen artistic programme must be made available in printed form at the examination.
