Programme objective:
Certification to teach 2 instruments or
1 instrument and voice in academic secondary schools (AHS)
Teaching activities may include:
Instrumental and/or voice instruction as an elective at academic secondary schools and as a compulsory subject in special upper-cycle programmes. Teaching of groups.
Admission criteria:
The level of skill demonstrated by the applicant in the entrance examination must be such that the level needed to teach this instrument and/or voice can be attained within this programme of study.
Entrance Examination:
As a 1st Instrument (corresponds to BA IGP)

As a 2nd Instrument (corresponds to ME: 1st instrument and IGP: complementary 2nd instrument)

Bachelor’s degree examination:
As a 1st instrument (corresponds to IGP: bachelor’s degree examination)
A) 1 solo suite by J. S. Bach (Prelude, Sarabande,
1 further movement)
B) 1 etude at a level of difficulty equivalent to that of Duport (excepting 3, 4, 5, 7, 19)
C) 4 further works (whose styles and genres can
be freely combined)
1) Stylistic eras
- Baroque
- Viennese Classicism
- Romantic period including the first half of the
20th century - 1 contemporary work that differs markedly in style from works that are part of the traditional repertoire
2) Genres
- Sonata (in its entirety) with piano obligato
- Concerto (1 fast movement) or concert piece at a level of difficulty equivalent to that of Haydn C-Major, Saint-Saens, Lalo
- Chamber music (entire work, any combination of instruments excepting cello and piano)
3) 1 freely chosen work
One’s examination programme must contain a total of 6 works. All genres and styles listed above must be represented by at least one work (with the baroque/pre-classical era being covered by the compulsory Bach solo suite, though it can be chosen again for an elective piece). The solo suite by J. S. Bach and the concerto or concert piece must be played from memory.
As a 2nd instrument (corresponds to ME: 1st instrument and IGP: complementary 2nd instrument)
a) A total of 5 pieces must be prepared.
b) One’s programme must include works from at least 3 different
eras chosen from the stylistic categories of baroque, classical (incl. pre-classical), romantic, and 20th/21st century works that differ markedly in style from works belonging to the traditional repertoire.
c) One’s programme must include a fast movement from a concerto (and/or concert piece).
d) One’s programme must include a work for ensemble (chamber music for any forces other than cello & piano).
e) The fifth piece is freely chosen by the candidate.
The piece with which the exam performance begins may be chosen by the candidate.
One’s chosen artistic programme must be made available in printed form at the examination.
