Master Contemporary music-ensemble mdw

Due to its longstanding tradition and history, the City of Vienna has been and remains one of the most renowed places for Classical and Contemporary Music. Notably since the foundation of the Second Viennese School of Composition (Schönberg, Webern), the Contemporary Music field has enjoyed a continuous and fruitful development.
Klangforum Wien, an ensemble founded 30 years ago by Beat Furrer, plays an important role through its close connections with the most important composers of our time, such as Lachenmann, Sciarrino, Haas, Furrer and others.

The Master Programme "Contemporary music - ensemble" at mdw (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna) offers three main subjects:
- New Playing Techniques in Contemporary Music Literature (individual lessons)

- Contemporary chamber music projects for various ensembles (group lessons)
- Performance of larger ensemble works by important contemporary composers (group lessons)

"Contemporary music-Ensemble" offers multiple opportunities for the participating students to perform in front of an audience. This includes concerts at the mdw, at the Festival Wien Modern, at the Schönberg-Center Vienna and occasionally abroad. Furthermore, there is the possibility of a direct collaboration with famous composers, as well as workshops together with composition students of the mdw.
