Peter Matzka
Concertmaster of RSO (Radio Symphony Orchestra) Vienna, was born in the USA.
He studied at SUNY Purchase with Charles and Heidi Castleman, the Eastman School of Music with Donald Weilerstein and Sylvia Rosenberg, and later at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Sandor Vegh.
He studied chamber music with the Cleveland, Juilliard and Tokyo Quartets.
Matzka was a founding member of the Chester Quartet and came to Vienna in 1983 to join the Vienna String Sextet, with whom he has recorded most of the string quintet and sextet repertoire for EMI and Pan Classics.
He is prizewinner, as soloist and as chamber musicician, of many international competitions including ARD-Munich, Queen Elisabeth-Brussels, Naumburg-New York.
Peter Matzka was professor at Indiana University at South Bend from 1980-83 and at the Hochschule für Musik Cologne from 1993-98.
He has been active as instructor for string chamber music at the University for Music, Vienna since 1988.
