Peter Schuhmayer

was born in Vienna, Austria.
In 1996 he joined the faculty of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna teaching chamber music and violin. 1993-98 guest professor for chamber music at the University of Music Graz. Mr. Schuhmayer is a sought-after teacher and presents regularly master classes at schools and festivals like Royal College of Music London, Sibelius Academy Helsinki, Eastman School of Music (USA), Yale School of Music (USA), Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, Central Conservatory Beijing, Seoul National University, Kuhmo, ISA, ECMA, Pablo Casals, Norfolk Summer School of Music and MISQA Montreal.
His students are members of many international orchestras and prize winners at Fritz Kreisler Competition, New York Concert Artist Audition, Tchaikovsky Competition Moscow.
Since 1980 first violinist and founding member of the Artis Quartet of Vienna, which is serving as quartet in residence at the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde (Musikverein) in Vienna since 1988. He performed in musical centres like New York, Paris, Vienna, London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Tokyo and festivals like Salzburg, Berlin and Vienna, Lockenhaus, Pablo Casals, Schubertiade, Ravinia, Ludwigsburg and Schleswig Holstein. Having recorded more than 40 CDs he received international awards including Echo Klassik, Grand Prix du Disque, Diapasond' Or, Prix Caecilia, Indie Award, Wiener Flötenuhr and Midem Classical Award. Lully Award for the best chamber music performance of the season in New York City.
Peter Schuhmayer performed chamber music with artists like Mischa Maisky, Nabuko Imai, Peter Frankl, Boris Berman, Christoph Eschenbach, Ralf Gothoni, Richard Stoltzman, Michel Lethiec, Sharon Kam, Juliane Banse, Till Fellner, Stefan Vladar and Sol Gabetta.
1980-85 member of the Vienna String Soloists.
1981-84 guest performances with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under conductors like Böhm, Karajan, Kleiber, Abbado, Muti, Solti, Maazel, Barenboim, Giulini.
Guestleader with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Philharmonic, Vienna String Soloists, Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg.

Soloperformances with RSO Berlin, Orchestre d'Ille de France, Norfolk Festival Orchestra, Neues Wiener Kammerorchester, Orchester der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien.
He studied violin and chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Hertha Binder, Josef Suk, Hatto Beyerle, privately with Alfred Staar and at the College Conservatory in Cincinnati (USA) with Walter Levin and the La Salle Quartet.
