How do I register for the lectures?

The registration for the lectures is possible during the admission period of the mdw through MDWOnline or via Email at ikm@mdw.ac.at:

Winter Semester 2019/20: Mo, 9. September 2019 to Fr, 4. Oktober 2019

Summer Semester 2020: Mo, 17. Februar 2020 to Fr, 6. März 2020

If you miss this deadline, please contact the IKM office (ikm-lehre@mdw.ac.at ), if a registration for the lectures is still possible.

If you study at another Austrian state university, you have to enroll as a co-registered student with the study center of the mdw first, then you can register for our lectures.

How can I enroll as a co-registered student?

For new co-registered students:

First you have to register with MDWOnline.

This you can do either from home or at the terminals in the hall of the mdw at Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1.

https://online.mdw.ac.at → Studium → Studierenden Voranmeldung (in German)

Please memorize the given ID-Number and leave the box study empty.

Then during the admission period, you go to the Study center of the mdw in person and take the current "Studienblatt" of your university and your students ID with you.

For current co-registered students:

If you are already a co-registered student at the mdw, there is the possibility to fax the current "Studienblatt" of your university during the admission period (see above ) ( +43 1 71155 6999), to send it via Email (mitbelegung@mdw.ac.at) or post or to put it in the mailbox in front of the Study Center.

What should I consider as an exchange student?

For that please contact the  Büro für internationale Beziehungen of the mdw.

How do university programmes differ from other university courses?

The university programmes of the IKM are designed as part-time, 4-semester long training with a masters degree and target interested parties, who already completed higher education or are similarly qualified and who already work ideally in the cultural field. The academic degree is a Master of Advanced Studies.

Unlike the offered courses at the IKM within the framework of ordinary teaching, that mdw-students of other Austrian universities can attend for free, the attendance of the university programmes is fee-based. The university programmes attendees are irregular students.

Furthermore, admission to the university programmes is linked to the existence of an admission exam, whereas for the attendance of the other courses at the IKM only a registration to the lecture is needed.

The group size of the university programmes is limited to 22-24 people.

The cultural Management programme, founded in 1976, target those who already work in the cultural field or already worked in this field and who want to expand their knowledge of Cultural Institutions, who want to discover additional tools and who want to build a multidisciplinary network and furthermore who search a space for exchange and reflection. The equal togetherness of art and science is a special cause for us- that is why the lectures offer topics of the following fields: Cultural Management-Management-Art, Culture and Public-Legal Matters in Cultural Management-Soft Skills.

The university programme for Applied Dramaturgy in Music and Performing Arts, founded 2018, teaches the basics of dramaturgical work. Main topics are Music-and Theater Dramaturgy, Cultural Studies, Cultural Policy, Philosophy and Aesthetics. The university programme focuses on dealing with language and communication, structuring Dramaturgy projects and their documentation as well as cooperations with international cultural institutions.

Is the supervision of PHD-theses possible at the IKM?

At the IKM students can write PHD-theses in the special fields Cultural Institutions Studies as well as Gender Studies (PhD Studium).
