Project Telling Sounds – Data protection information in accordance with Art 14 GDPR

The mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna („mdw“), Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1, 1030 Vienna, places great importance on the protection of data pertaining to your person. For this reason, in accordance with the relevant data protection regulations, we would like to inform you about the collection, processing and use of your data within the Project Telling Sounds.

The mdw processes your personal data exclusively within the framework of the applicable data protection regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Austrian Data Protection Act (DSG) and the Austrian Telecommunications Act (TKG).

Within the framework of the project, personal data (name, gender, life data) will be collected by mdw and the persons entrusted with project implementation at the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies using web software and will be linked to specific objects (media files). In doing so, a link to external content (data outside the planned web application) is created. The metadata originate exclusively from public, legitimate sources that can be accessed online, such as the Common Standards File (Gemeinsame Normdatei, GND) and Wikidata.

There is no change of purpose with regard to the originally published object. This project serves to make objects easier to find, to create and visualize music-historical contexts and thus to increase knowledge and support research. The legal basis for the data processing is the public interest according to Art 6 Sec 1 (e) GDPR in connection with §§ 1-3 of the Austrian Universities Act (UG), especially § 3 Z 1 and 8 UG.

The data is processed internally by the persons involved in the project and only passed on internally or to third parties if this is necessary to fulfil the above-mentioned purposes, if it is in the public interest in accordance with Art 6 sec 1 lit (e) GDPR in connection with §§ 1-3 UG or, insofar as mdw does not act in fulfilment of its public interest, in the legitimate interest of those responsible in accordance with Art 6 Sec 1 (f) GDPR.

The data will be stored for the duration of the provision of the referred medium and beyond that for the duration of any existing legal claims or due to legal obligations. Data that constitute archival records in accordance with the Federal Archives Act (Bundesarchivgesetz) will be stored indefinitely.
