Lis Vovka (they/them and she/her) studied Musicology and Dance Science at the University of Salzburg. During their studies, Lis discovered their interest for empirical (music) sociology during an Erasmus year at the University of Utrecht. Currently, they deepen this interest in the MA program in Musicology at the University of Vienna. Her MA thesis is a qualitative investigation of queer safe(r) spaces in the Viennese club culture, supervised by Prof. Rosa Reitsamer. Outside of university, Lis is a trained ballet dancer and works as a DJ. In addition, Lis was a volunteer tutor for teenage refugees in Salzburg in a Caritas project ("Lernen macht Schule", 2020-21) and volunteers as a Queer Base Buddy in Vienna.

Lis's academic interest is in electronic dance music and its scenes, popular music studies, intersectional inequalities and the sociology and philosophy of education.
