Golan Gur ist promovierter Musikwissenschaftler und Universitätsassistent am Institut für Musiksoziologie an der mdw – Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. Er studierte Musikwissenschaft an der Universität Tel Aviv und der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Seine Promotion absolvierte er am Lehrstuhl für Musiksoziologie/Sozialgeschichte der Musik an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Seine Doktorarbeit wurde durch Fellowships der Minerva Stiftung (Max-Planck-Gesellschaft) und der Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (Leo Baeck Fellowship Programme) gefördert.

Nach der Promotion war er zwei Jahre als Newton International Fellow der British Academy an der University of Cambridge tätig. Zudem war er Postdoctoral Researcher am Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies der University of Pennsylvania, Research Fellow am IFK Wien sowie wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. 2020-2022 leitete er das FWF-Forschungsprojekt „proletarische Stimmen“ an der mdw. 2022-2023 war er Postdoctoral Research Fellow der UKRI am Royal Holloway College, University of London.
