This spring, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility programme, teaching at the Paderewski Academy of Music in Pozna\u0144<\/a>, Poland. I was invited by the fantastic teacher, composer, and conductor Micha\u0142 Janocha to work together with his students and their orchestra. This experience was divided into two exciting phases, each offering unique insights and unforgettable moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Impressions: Pozna<\/strong>\u0144<\/strong> and the Paderewski Academy of Music<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My adventure in Pozna\u0144 began with a warm welcome from the staff and students at the Paderewski Academy of Music. Known for its rich musical heritage and vibrant cultural scene, Pozna\u0144 provided an inspiring backdrop for my workshops. The city\u2019s mix of historical charm and modern energy was immediately captivating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phase 1: Instant Composition Masterclass (March 21\u2013<\/strong>22, 2024)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 1: The first day of the masterclass focused on general and practical workshops on instant composition methods. It was designed for students of composition, electroacoustic composition, and music theory, but was open to all interested students. We delved into various techniques, encouraging participants to think creatively and spontaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2: The second day was more intimate, with smaller group lessons and individual consultations. This session was aimed at helping students develop their personal creative toolboxes, tailored to their unique ideas and needs. The enthusiasm and talent of the students were truly inspiring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phase 2: Composition and Performance Workshop and Presentation (April 4<\/strong>\u2013<\/strong>5, 2024)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 1: The second phase of my mobility involved working closely with instrumentalists and the Lambda Laptop Orchestra. We spent an intense day rehearsing pieces composed by the students. The collaborative spirit and dedication of everyone involved made this a highly productive session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2: Our efforts culminated in a public performance at the university\u2019s main concert hall. The evening featured a diverse array of student compositions, showcasing their creativity and hard work. I was honoured to have my piece \u201cFish in the Clouds \u2013 Hommage \u00e0 Gy\u00f6rgy Ligeti\u201d performed as part of the concert. Our project was mainly based on the method and techniques of the Soundpainting sign language created by Walter Thompson in 1974, continuously developed by many communities worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflections and Gratitude<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking back, the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility programme was an enriching experience that went beyond teaching: it was about connecting with a community of passionate musicians and sharing knowledge in a collaborative environment. The warm hospitality and vibrant musical culture of the Paderewski Academy of Music made this journey unforgettable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the participants, the Paderewski Academy of Music, and the dedicated staff who supported and facilitated this programme both in Vienna and in Pozna\u0144. Their enthusiasm and commitment were crucial to the success of these workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final Thoughts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The time I spent in Pozna\u0144 reaffirmed the importance of international collaboration in the arts. It provided a platform for creative exchange and mutual learning, contributing to personal and professional growth.
