Koto-Workshop (Japanese zither-instrument) with MICHIKO MOTOI

Michiko Motoi, master of the Japanese Koto, will demonstrate her instrument with music from the 17th century to contemporary compositions, Japanese dances and Jiuta Mai by Yukio Konishi. The playing technique will be demonstrated and afterwards participants will be able to try out the instrument for themselves.

Motoi received nearly two years of "uchideshi" training and studied with Tadao Sawai and Kazue Sawai. She is a graduate of the NHK Hogaku Technician Training Association. Motoi is a 1st and 2nd rank Koushi/Kyoushi teacher with distinction, Shihan Master of Sawai Sokyokuin and a member of the Japan Sankyoku Association. Motoi won 3rd prize in the Japanese Music category at the 5th JILA Music Competition. She performs nationwide with the NHK Symphony Orchestra and as a koto soloist with the OEK Orchestra (conductor Junichi Hirokami) and with the Kanazawa Ongakudo in Kaiji Moriyama's "Senjumai Dojoji".
