The master in ethnomusicology at the mdw enables you to combine scholarly studies and artistic practice in a unique way. Apply for the entrance examination in an individually chosen traditional music style of singing, instrumental music or dance. In the course of your studies, you will deepen your knowledge of ethnomusicological approaches and explore music and/or dance – for example, in relation to regions or groups, as a sound/body phenomenon or in socio-political contexts. A key aspect of the course of study is fieldwork – the direct experience of music and dance and personal encounters with people and cultural traditions.
