Prof. Dr. Bernard Garaj
Bernard Garaj (*1960) studied Music Education at the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra and finished his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Musicology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava on “Bagpipes and the Bagpipers´ Tradition in Slovakia” (1990). His postdoctoral thesis “Slovak Folk Dance Music at the End of the 20th Century” was defended at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (1999) and his inauguration thesis on “The History of Slovak Folk Music Ensembles” was defended at his alma mater (2005). In the years 1992 – 2005 he worked at the Institute of Musicology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, and since 1992 he has been affiliated with the Department of Ethnology and Folklore Studies of the Faculty of Arts, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra.
