Cumbia explodes again!

La Sonora Mazurén is a dynamic Colombian septet that combines the flavors of popular Latin American music with the tropical sounds of raw Bogotá. Their performances create a ceremony where dance and festivity take control of the audience, transporting them to the golden years of tropicalia.
In this workshop lecture, the ensemble will describe the geographical and historical timeline of Cumbia, emphasizing its vital recording episodes during the last 70 years, from the first LPs during the 1950s until now, as well as explaining the ancestral origins of this tri-ethnic rhythm that has become a global phenomenon permeating urban expressions and nudging its way into popular culture. As a practical component, participants will also have a Cumbia Jam for attendees from all levels! Participants are encouraged to bring their own instruments.
