MMRC – Music and Minorities Research Center (Wittgenstein Project)
The MMRC – Music and Minorities Research Center (Wittgenstein Project) was founded and is led by Ursula Hemetek, who was head of mdw’s Department of Folk Music Research and Ethnomusicology from 2011 to 2022. The MMRC is funded by the money from the Wittgenstein Award of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), which was awarded to Ursula Hemetek in 2018. MMRC’s goal is continuing the ethnomusicological minority research which has been developed by Ursula Hemetek, and creating a structural basis for it at mdw. By now, three research projects are based at MMRC, a scientific journal is being established, and the MMRC Lecture in November 2020 marked the successful launch of an annual event of international scope.
Until October 2020, MMRC was part of the department, since then it represents a separate organizational unit within the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
If you are interested in further information on the MMRC or have any questions, please feel free to contact the MMRC team at mmrc@mdw.ac.at!
