Director of the Department of Folk Music Research and Ethnomusicology at the University for Music and the Performing Arts Vienna from 2011 to 2022 and Honorary Member. She received Gold Medal of Merit for outstanding achievements at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, June 2022

Since 2019 Director of Music and Minorities Research Center (MMRC).

Born in 1956 in Vienna, 1987 she earned her Ph.D. in Musicology, 2001 followed her habilitation in Ethnomusicology both at Vienna University. She is professor of ethnomusicology and teaches mainly at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Her main focus of research is Music and Minorities in Austria. She has published widely in the field of ethnomusicology and Music and Minorities (focus on Roma, Burgenland Croats and recent immigrant groups, refugees).

She served as chair of the ICTM Study Group on Music and Minorities from its foundation in 1999 until 2017.

Secretary General of ICTM (International Council for Traditional Music) from 2017 to 2021.

2018 she is awarded with the Wittgenstein-Preis.
