Gertrud Maria HUBER, PhD, Graduate Degree in Music Education

Gertrud Maria Huber studied music education at the University of Music Nuremberg-Augsburg and the Richard Strauss Conservatory Munich (zither, harp, hammered dulcimer, jazz clarinet and traditional Alpine music). In 2014, she finished her Ph.D.-doctoral thesis at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (THE ZITHER IN AMERICA. How the „modern mountain zither“ is played in the USA, based on four case studies). Her research and teaching range widely, with particular emphasis on zither instruments worldwide and European folk music in social and political movements, cultural policy and communication developments, education and gender studies. Huber is an active performer and directs several ensembles. Among others, she played the zither solo from „Tales of the Vienna Woods“ with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under Kurt Masur. Teaching activity in the zither teacher training program at the German Bundesakademie für musikalische Jugendbildung Trossingen and various supporting organizations. Scholarship 2019 South Korean International GUGAK Workshop in Seoul.
