Eva Christina Moreno, BA BA
(Technical Assistant)
Eva Christina Moreno is working as technical assistant for the Department of Folk Music Research and Ethnomusicology at MDW since 2023. Shaped by her Styrian and Venezuelan roots, the young singer and composer started her musical career quite early: Already at the age of 13 she performed in various musical projects from Jazz and Latin to Soul and R’n’B on national and international stages. She cooperated with well-known artists such as Martin Reiter, Ismael Barrios, ELIS NOA and Erik Asatrian. In 2013 she founded her main artistic project, Eva Moreno Group, with which she established herself in the Austrian jazz music scene. Her albums Running through Life and Stories of a Mind, which are influenced by the typical sound of acid-jazz, have since been presented in the Austrian radio program Ö1 a.o. and have been critically acclaimed by Concerto Magazin and other musical press reviews. Furthermore, Eva Moreno is acting as a singer for jingle- and advertisement-soundtracks, as for Wiener Zucker, Zipfer, a.o.
In 2016 she was nominated as Head of the Year in the category Cultural Work by the Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung. One year later Eva Moreno was accepted into the Marianne Mendt Youth Jazz-Promotion Program. In 2022 she received the Youth Award for Cultural Work by her hometown of Kapfenberg.
Having two bachelor degrees in jazz vocal performance (MUK with Ines Reiger) and singing & instrumental music pedagogy (MDW with Philipp Sageder, Elfi Aichinger and Nataša Mircović), Eva Moreno – besides doing a training in cultural management – is currently studying the Master Program of Ethnomusicology at the IVE, specialising in aspects of the traditional music of Venezuela and the symbiotic relationship between western pop music and elements of the music of the afro-caribbean.
